When we first go to a home, we’ll typically look throughout the home or business to figure out if there actually is a rat problem. Sometimes it could be a mouse infestation or some other type of pest but when it is a rat infestation, we’ll know from a few telltale signs. The first sign we look for is rat droppings. Rat droppings are one of the best indicators of a rat infestation. We’ll also look for chewed wires, claw marks on the walls, and other signs of the critters.
After we determine that there is in fact a rat infestation in your home or business, we look for the rat entry points and seal them. We know that rats can squeeze into spaces as small as ½ an inch, meaning any entry points this size or larger are going to have to be sealed up. Typically, we will seal the rat entry points using either PUR Black Gun Foam or even copper mesh to seal off the openings near pipes and wires that extend into foundation or siding.
Once the rat entry points are sealed up, we working on getting rid of the rats. With rat infestations, we try to determine how large of a rat infestation it actually is before attacking it. If the rat infestation is really out of hand, we may try to bait them first to deplete the population a bit before putting out the rat traps. When a rat infestation is not full-blown, we will typically set up a lot of rat traps and wait for them to do their job.
